Delete your CommuGuard account

You have the right to delete your CommuGuard account at any time. This page explains exactly how to do it, what gets deleted, and what we may have to keep.
Option 1 — Delete in the app (fastest)
- Open the CommuGuard app and sign in.
- Tap your profile icon (top right) to open Profile / Settings.
- Scroll down to Account and tap Delete account.
- Confirm by entering your password and tapping Delete permanently.
- You will be signed out, and the deletion will begin immediately.
Option 2 — Request deletion through this website
If you no longer have access to the app, fill in the form below or email us at support@commuguard.co.za from the email address registered on your account.
What we delete
When you delete your account, we delete or irreversibly anonymise the following data from our active systems within 30 days:
- Your name, email address, phone number and password hash.
- Your profile, role and community membership.
- Notices, messages and incident reports you posted (or these will be anonymised so they can no longer be linked to you).
- Photos and PDF attachments you uploaded.
- Precise location data tied to your account.
- Push-notification tokens and device identifiers tied to your account.
What we may keep (and why)
We may retain limited information after deletion where we have a legal obligation or a legitimate business need, including:
- Records we must keep by law — for example, financial records or information that has been subpoenaed or is the subject of a lawful preservation request from SAPS or another authority. These records are kept for the period required by law.
- Aggregated, de-identified data — for example, counts of notices delivered. This data cannot be used to identify you.
- Backups — backups are purged on their normal rotation cycle (typically within 90 days), after which your data is fully removed.
- Abuse and security records — limited records (such as the fact that an account was banned for abuse) may be retained to prevent the same person from re-registering.
Timeline
- Immediately: your account is deactivated and you can no longer sign in.
- Within 30 days: personal data is deleted or anonymised from active systems.
- Within 90 days: data is purged from routine backups.
